Jennet Kubandyrdyeva works for a leading international distributor of stationery products, construction materials and major electric appliances in Turkmenistan's Ashgabat market. After attending USAID-funded vocational preparatory courses in March 2004, she passed the exams necessary to receive her designation as a certified accounting practitioner.
Jennet credits the courses with providing her with the tools and inspiration to assess and improve the efficiency and profitability of her company. After her training, she undertook an inventory analysis that led to a new pricing strategy and revised product mix that generated a 20 percent increase in sales. Jennet also identified opportunities for the firm to decrease its inventories by a tenth, which reduced property taxes on warehoused goods.
"I learned that an accountant is not only responsible for keeping records," said Jennet, "but had direct influence on improving efficiency and profitability of the business through providing and implementing comprehensive analysis of economic conditions."
Due to her successes within her company, the Public Union of Accountants of Turkmenistan named Jennet Best Accountant of the Year in April 2005.
