Free OSHA Outreach Seminar on Powered Industrial Truck Local Emphasis Program to be Held in Haverhill, Mass. - November 19 METHUEN, Mass. -- Helping Massachusetts employers reduce occupational injuries and illnesses associated with the use of powered industrial trucks (PIT) in their workplaces is the subject of an upcoming free seminar being offered by the Methuen Area Office of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in cooperation with the Massachusetts Division of Occupational Safety and PIT manufacturer Hyster New England. The seminar, to be held on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill, Mass., will assist companies of all sizes in the area that require employees to use powered industrial trucks (fork lift trucks) in the workplace. One of the goals of the session is to inform these employers of the local emphasis program OSHA has instituted to focus on the specific hazards associated with the operation of these vehicles. The program encompasses outreach efforts and inspections of companies throughout New England that own or operate such equipment. This timely, free seminar will feature OSHA experts, a manufacturer's representative and a representative from the Massachusetts Industrial Safety & Health Consultation Service who will address the hazards that OSHA has identified as most prevalent while using powered industrial trucks. A question and answer session will be part of the program. At the conclusion of this seminar, participants will have a better understanding of OSHA's local emphasis program and better understanding of how to bring their work place into compliance with safety and health standards for fork lifts trucks, including the advantages of having a PIT safety and health program and preventive maintenance program. Seating is limited, so advance registration (by Nov. 1) is requested.
