Ceremony Scheduled May 11 in St. Louis ST. LOUIS -- Delta Air Lines-St. Louis Airport Customer Service has earned membership in the prestigious "Star" Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) of the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). A recognition ceremony is scheduled for May 11 at 10:30 a.m. "Delta Air Lines has exhibited excellence in safety and health management at their St. Louis location," said Kansas City OSHA Regional Administrator Charles E. Adkins, certified industrial hygienist. "Their outstanding efforts have included management commitment to safety and health, and employee involvement in safety and health programs." The facility employs 35 workers who provide scheduled air transportation. OSHA's Voluntary Protection Programs recognize and promote effective workplace safety and health management. Companies in VPP achieve average injury rates 50 percent lower than other companies in their industry. Nationwide, approximately 1,400 work sites participate in the program, representing more than 280 industries. Information kits about the VPP application and approval process are available from the OSHA VPP manager at the Kansas City Regional Office at (816) 426 5861. Employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace for their employees. The role of OSHA is to assure the safety and health of America's workers by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach, and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual improvement in workplace safety and health.
