Region 2 News Release: 04-1499-NEW / BOS 2004-207 Thursday, September 2, 2004 Contact: Ted Fitzgerald Office: (617) 565-2074 OSHA, Lovell Safety Management, Partner to Help New York State Employers Develop Safety and Health Management Programs NEW YORK -- Providing New York State employers with information, guidance and access to resources to develop programs that protect employees' safety and health is the goal of a new alliance forged between the New York offices of the U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Lovell Safety Management Co. LLC. OSHA health and safety alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers through cooperative partnerships. "This alliance will encourage employers, especially small businesses, to improve their safety and health management programs," said Patricia Clark, OSHA's regional administrator in New York. "Through this partnership, OSHA will be able to provide outreach services to over 500 employers in the state of New York." Lovell Safety Management Co. provides safety management to more than 4,000 clients in areas such as general construction, lumber, and industry within New York State. The alliance will encourage employers, including small businesses, to participate in OSHA cooperative programs such as compliance assistance and the Voluntary Protection Program. OSHA and Lovell also will work together to develop and promote accessible, easy-to-use tools that help small business owners create and implement their own effective workplace safety and health programs. Alliance signatories for OSHA included Regional Administrator Patricia K. Clark; Richard Mendelson, director of the agency's Manhattan area office; Robert Kulick, director, Avenel area office; Diana Cortez, director, Tarrytown area office; Diane Brayden, director, Syracuse area office; Arthur Dube, director, Buffalo area office; and John Tomich, director, Albany area office. Lovell, President, and Susan Geier Fahamy Vice President/Director of Safety, signed on behalf of Lovell Safety Management Co., LLC Since 2001, OSHA has created more than 160 alliances with organizations committed to fostering safety and health in the workplace.
