SAMHSA Sponsored-Recovery Walk/Jesus is My Anti-Drug Rally

community members will meet in the Pikeville Medical Center Parking lot and will walk thru the City of Pikeville to support September National Alcohol Drug Addiction Recovery Month. The walk will end at Grace Fellowship Churc on 2nd street where SouthEast Telephone will be grilling hotdogs and having drinks for all. "Jesus is My Anti-drug" Rally will then take over with bands and contests for all.

A touring multi-media, interactive exhibit, LIVE outside the bottle: The Story of Alcoholism in America is coming to Boston as a part of an unprecedented, national educational program created to inform the public about alcoholism, one of society's most misunderstood and deadly diseases.

As alcoholism is a widespread problem, the exhibit can be a valuable learning experience for an extensive audience including people with alcoholism and their loved ones, college students, physicians, counselors, dignitaries, corporate executives and clergy

It is important for people to know that alcoholism is a treatable, chronic disease affecting the brain and that the opinion of a medical professional, such as a family doctor or addiction specialist, should be sought when considering treatment options and looking for help.

Oxford House 9th Annual World Convention

Oxford House is a concept in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. In its simplest form, an Oxford House describes a democratically run, self-supporting and drug free home. Parallel to this concept lies the organizational structure of Oxford House, Inc. This publicly supported, non-profit 501(c)3 corporation is the umbrella organization which provides the network connecting all Oxford Houses and allocates resources to duplicate the Oxford House concept where needs arise.

Recovery Month Kick-Off National Survey on Drug Abuse Release -- SAMHSA-Sponsored

The Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration will unveil the results of the 2006 National Survey on Drug Use and Health at a press conference on Thursday, September 6. The annual survey, formerly called the Household Survey is the largest of its kind, and is the governments primary vehicle for determining how many persons are abusing illegal drugs, pharmaceuticals, alcohol and tobacco.

The release of the 2006 survey results is the keynote of the annual National Alcohol & Drug Addiction Recovery Month press conference marking a month long observance of the gains made by those in recovery from alcohol and drug abuse, as well as treatment providers.

Second Annual One Day at a Time March for Drug Recovery. We begin the march at the Estill County Fairgrounds and are led by the Estill County Sheriff's office, and the Estill County Marching Band across the bridge to the Estill County Courthouse. We then march seven times around our courthouse. We are then led back across the bridge. We are honored to have guest speakers this year.

Whereas, addiction counselors are uniquely qualified, frontline health care professionals who are indispensable in the process of guiding patients with addictive disorders to recovery;

Whereas, alcohol and drug disorders are a major public health problem that costs American society more than $300 billion each year, affecting millions of Americans of all ages, races, and ethnic backgrounds and in all communities through treatment, education, and prevention programs; and

Whereas, addictive disorders are a treatable disease and treatment of addiction is as successful as the treatment of other chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and asthma; and
