About Global Water

Global Water is an international, non-profit humanitarian organization focused on creating safe water supplies, sanitation facilities and related health programs for rural villagers in developing countries. We believe the lack of safe drinking and agricultural water and lack of access to sanitation facilities are the root causes of disease, hunger and poverty throughout the world today.

International Voluntary Service Activities

For the past three years, Global Water has funded projects for water supplies in Guatemala and Nicaragua. Here is a brief description of these type of projects - In each of these projects the water supply systems consisted of building concrete spring catchment to protect natural springs coming from hillsides. The spring catchment boxes are then connected through piping and channeled down a hillside towards a particular village. Once at the village, a 1,000 - 2,000 gallon tank is built. From the distribution tank, lateral piping connects individual homesites to distribution tanks.

Latrines are often built at each homesite, if needed. In addition, hand washing stations are built at local schools along with additional latrines. When homesites are spread out, individual taps are not always created. In this case centralized washing stations and drinking water collection areas are created.

Lastly, hygiene education is taught in schools to reinforce concepts of proper hygiene and sanitation.

Currently, we have 2-3 volunteers working on project management duties within the US. We can send volunteers to work with NGOs in developing countries, but the minimum time period for such deployments is usually 6-months.
