Project:

Antarctica

Leader: Jerry Mullins, jmullins@usgs.gov
Overview: USGS coordinates mapping and geodetic activities with the international scientific community under the the terms of the Antarctic Treaty. The USGS Polar Program maps selected areas of scientific interest in Antarctica under the auspices of the National Science Foundation. The Polar Program includes multinational cooperation with institutions from Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom. In addition to producing Antarctic maps, USGS also establishes geodetic control and collects Antarctic satellite imagery, GIS, gravity and glaciological data. Other related activities include the operation and maintenance of the U.S. Antarctic Resource Center, the Antarctica Geographic Names DataBase, and the Atlas of Antarctic Research. project location map
