PORT ARTHUR CONVICTED FELON SENTENCED
FOR GUN POSSESSION

(BEAUMONT, TX)   United States Attorney Rebecca A. Gregory announced today that a 25-year-old Port Arthur man has been sentenced to 37 months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm in the Eastern District of Texas.

COREY LEE JOHNSON pleaded guilty on December 5, 2007 to being a felon in possession of a firearm and was sentenced today to 37 months in federal prison by United States District Judge Ron Clark.

According to information presented in court, on May 3, 2007, officers with the Port Arthur Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance call on 23rd Street in Port Arthur.  Upon arrival, they were advised by witnesses that Johnson had been brandishing a firearm.  The firearm was located and further investigation revealed Johnson to be a convicted felon and prohibited by federal law from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition.  Johnson had previously been found guilty of delivery of a controlled substance in Jefferson County in 2005.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Port Arthur Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John Ross.
