ROANOKE MAN SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR
CONSPIRACY TO DISTRIBUTE COCAINE

United States Attorney John L. Brownlee announced today that Jamar Bernard Woody, age 26, of Roanoke, Virginia has been sentenced in United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Roanoke to serve 12 years in prison for conspiring to distribute more than 50 grams of cocaine.

“This case is an example of local and federal law enforcement agencies working together to take another drug dealer off our streets,” U.S. Attorney John Brownlee said today. “With this 12 year sentence there is one less criminal in our community attempting to sell poison to our children and neighbors.”

Woody was indicted in a four count superceding indictment on February 9, 2006 charging him with one count of possessing more than five grams of cocaine base with the intent to distribute, two counts of distributing a measurable quantity of cocaine base and one count of conspiring to distribute more than 50 grams of cocaine base. On January 22, 2008, Woody pled guilty to the one count of conspiracy to distribute more than 50 grams of cocaine base.

In addition to being sentenced to 12 years imprisonment, Woody also received a sentence of six years of supervised release thereafter.

The investigation of the case was conducted by the Roanoke County Police Department, the Roanoke City Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Agency. Assistant United States Attorney Andrew Bassford prosecuted the case for United States Attorney’s Office, Western District of Virginia.
