ASSISTANT UNITED STATES ATTORNEY ZACHARY LEE RECEIVES VIRGINIA STATE POLICE INSURANCE FRAUD PROGRAM’S AWARD

United States Attorney John L. Brownlee announced today that Assistant United States Attorney Zachary T. Lee has been named a winner in the Virginia State Police Insurance Fraud Program’s annual Fraud Fighters Award competition.

“This is a great honor for an outstanding public servant that has already done some great work in the Western District of Virginia,” U.S. Attorney John Brownlee said today. “I am extremely proud of Zach for all his hard work and for receiving this prestigious award.”

The award was established in 2005 to recognize those individuals in Virginia who go the extra mile to “Stamp out Fraud” in the Commonwealth. Candidates for this award were nominated by law enforcement and insurance industry officials. The recipients were selected by an awards committee based on the information submitted with each nominating form.

AUSA Lee was presented his award today in Richmond during the 16th Annual Fraud Seminar of the Virginia Chapter of the Internal Association of Special Investigation Units.
AUSA Lee graduated from Washington and Lee University in 1998 with a B.A. in American History. He received his J.D. in 2001 from the University of Wyoming College of Law, Laramie, Wyoming, where he was a member of the Land and Water Law Review. AUSA Lee was a law clerk to the Honorable James P. Jones, United States District Judge for the Western District of Virginia, from 2002 to 2003.

After his clerkship, AUSA Lee worked as an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney for the City of Bristol, Virginia, from 2003 to 2007, where he prosecuted a wide variety of criminal cases, including child abuse, first degree murder and narcotics offenses.

In 2005, AUSA Lee was assigned to work as a Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Virginia in the Abingdon Branch pursuant to a Project Safe Neighborhoods grant. AUSA Lee was hired by the United States Attorney's Office as an Assistant United States Attorney in 2007.
