Des Moines Man Sentenced On Gun Charge

DES MOINES, IA - On May 30, 2008, Kevin Thomas Heard, Jr., age 23, of Des Moines, Iowa, was sentenced to a term of 42 months imprisonment for being a felon in possession of a firearm announced United States Attorney Matthew G. Whitaker. United States Senior District Judge Ronald E. Longstaff also ordered Heard to serve a three year term of supervised release, and imposed an assessment of $100.00 to the Crime Victim Fund.


On January 25, 2008, Heard entered a plea of guilty to the felon in possession of a firearm charge. At the time of his plea, Heard stipulated that on July 26, 2006 he possessed a .38 caliber revolver and a .357 caliber derringer after previously being convicted of a felony offense.


This case was prosecuted by the United States Attorneys Office for the Southern District of Iowa. This case was investigated by the Des Moines, Iowa Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
