Publication Warehouse News

June 2008

New Publications of the U.S. Geological Survey: Timely discovery of newly-released USGS publications through the Publications Warehouse (http://pubs.usgs.gov) is now easier. In June the USGS online journal "New Publications of the U.S. Geological Survey" (http://pubs.er.usgs.gov/usgspubs/recentpubs.jsp) was awarded a new online ISSN number, 1938-2316, which continues the printed index published from 1907-2003. The new online ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) gives researchers and librarians worldwide a direct link to USGS electronic resources and allows the journal to be indexed in major e-resource databases. In January, the "New Publications of the U.S. Geological Survey" added an RSS feed that delivers a notice of new USGS series publications to the desktop. This service complements other USGS feeds (http://www.usgs.gov/rss/) of real-time information for the public.

The USGS Scanning Project for book has been placed on hold due to staff and funding availability. We are working on continuing this effort but the exact time line for when we will resume scanning is unknown. In certain situations, it is possible we may be able to accept files of scanned reports and process them for posting to the Publications Warehouse. Please contact gjallord@usgs.gov if you have any further questions regarding the status of scanning USGS legacy reports.
