Strategic On-Line Defense Geography Repository (SOLDGR)
SOLDGR uses The National Map's current seamless eight basic data themes as a projection basis for the DoD data layers. DoD geospatial information is directed to SOLDGR by web services held by the USGS. The web service information is contained within an ORACLE georeferenced catalog that powers The National Map. When the end user navigates into a particular geographic location, the web services for data layers in that area are referenced in the right-hand window of the viewer and can be selected for projection. SOLDGR is designed to serve environmental and engineering GIS data layers to the installation management constituency at the thin-client level. However, its potential utility to serve other efforts, such as homeland security and first response efforts, are quickly being realized and tested. SOLDGR is a prime example of how the The National Map can be exploited for other Federal agency purposes. Some of the data layers displayed by SOLDGR:
SOLDGR formerly is a product of the USGS Department of Defense Earth Science Program, but now is managed collaboratively by the National Geospatial Technical Operations Center-Rolla and the Mid-Continent Geographic Science Center. Note: This application requires the Java Runtime Environment. |
