Recent Graduates - Honors Attorney Fellowship
The Office of Regional Counsel seeks applications from third-year law students for the Region 9 Honors Attorney Fellowship. This is a two-year Fellowship working in the San Francisco, California office, and the Fellow is expected to commit to the full term. The deadline to apply for the 2009 Fellowship is October 1, 2008.
The EPA Region 9 Honors Attorney Fellowship is designed for a recent law school graduate with excellent academic credentials and a strong interest in an environmental law career and the public sector. It provides an opportunity for entry-level attorneys to practice law in a leading governmental environmental organization, and to receive extensive training in and exposure to environmental law and policy work in the public sector. The Region offers new attorneys significant responsibility, the opportunity to handle a complex caseload that includes enforcement and counseling work, and extensive training and mentoring from dedicated colleagues with recognized expertise. The Region offers a diverse and supportive work environment.
Eligibility
The Honors Attorney Fellowship is available to recent law school graduates. Only applicants who graduate no later than Summer 2009 from an ABA accredited law school are eligible. Fellows must be bar members, or have membership pending or awaiting bar exam results.
Pay
Prior to admission to the bar, the salary will be at the GS-9 level (currently starting at $52,740). After admission to a bar of any State, U.S. territory, Puerto Rico or the District of Columbia, the salary will be at the GS-11 level (currently starting at $63,811 per year). Relocation expenses are not authorized.

- Cover letter explaining the applicant's interest in the Fellowship.

Law Clerks and Interns
Law Clerks:
We operate a small summer law clerk program. Each summer we expect to invite up to 4 law students to participate in our 10-week program. If our budget does not allow us to provide paid clerkships, we may ask students to come as volunteers, in which case they may wish to defray costs by seeking grants from their law schools. If the budget permits, paid clerkships will be offered at a rate of GS-7 for law students entering their second year, and GS-9 for students entering their third year. (Visit Office of Personnel Management for the most current federal pay tables.)
Our hiring process will be conducted in two phases. Summer law clerk applications (cover letter, resume, legal writing sample and law school transcript, if available) for two available positions should be submitted by October 15, 2008. If our budget permits, we may hire up to two additional summer law clerks this winter; applications for this second phase are due by January 15, 2009. We are extending our application deadline for our 2009 Summer law clerk program until February 15, 2009. If you have already submitted an application, there is nothing more that you need to do at this time. If you have not previously submitted an application for our 2009 summer clerk position, we will accept applications through February 15, 2009.
Interns:
