Sampling Activities - Annapolis Lead Mine Superfund Site, Annapolis, Missouri

INTRODUCTION

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 7 will return to the community of Annapolis, Missouri during the period of August 7-18, 2006 to conduct ongoing sampling work.  The purpose of the visit is to begin the third phase of the remedial investigation (Operable Unit #3) in the town of Annapolis.  Sampling activities will be conducted at residences where EPA has obtained signatures on access agreements allowing EPA to take samples.

SAMPLING ACTIVITIES

The areas to be investigated during this sampling event includes residential properties, school yards, church properties, and other areas deemed attractive play areas for young children.  Soil samples will be collected in all of the above-mentioned areas, with an increased focus on gardens, children’s play areas and bare soils.  The samples will be analyzed for lead and other heavy metals. The results of the sampling will be provided to home owners approximately 45 days after the sampling event.  The sampling will not disrupt the normal day-to-day business.

Homeowners do not need to be home when the sampling takes place.
