Environmental Quality Awards
Each April, EPA honors individuals and organizations who have contributed significantly to improving the environment during the prior year in New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. See our recent press release.
The awards recognize achievement in the following categories:
- Individual Citizen
- Non-Profit Organization, Environmental or Community Group
- Environmental Education
- Business & Industry
- Federal, State, Local or Tribal Government or Agency
- Media
- Significantly contributed to improving environmental quality in New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands during the prior year.
- Demonstrated a high achievement level in the award category.
- Created unique or location-specific benefits, produced results that are sustainable or reproducible, or increased public involvement in environmental action.
Nominations must be submitted by February 23, 2009.
Nominations must include:
- A completed nomination form [1 pg, 100K, About PDF].
- A narrative description of the nominee’s accomplishments.
- Supporting documentation such as testimonials, news clippings, etc.
Self-nominations are welcome. Please note that award recipients from 2008 are not eligible for this year's awards. Winners in 2007 or prior years, as well as previous nominees who did not receive awards, are eligible, but must be renominated to be considered for an award this year. Awardees will be honored at a ceremony at EPA's New York City offices in April.
