LIVESTOCK DISEASE CONTROL

The mission of the branch is to prevent, detect, diagnose, control and eradicate livestock diseases in order to promote the health and economic well-being of the livestock industries in Hawaii. Surveillance for regulatory diseases is conducted routinely to identify diseases which constitute a threat to the State's livestock industries and public health.

The Livestock Disease Control Branch consists of veterinary medical officers, livestock inspectors, animal caretakers, management and support staff responsible for regulating and enforcing the following programs:

Animal importation laws and regulations;
Cooperative disease control and eradication programs;
Epizootic disease outbreak investigations and control;
Regulating other miscellaneous laws and rules pertaining to animals and animal health.

For more details on importation regulations either call the Hawaii Department of Agriculture's Animal Industry Division at (808) 483-7100 or select "Importing Livestock to Hawaii."
