Private Labeling Procedures
Manufacturers, retailers, and distributors commonly acquire products
produced by another manufacturer with the intent of rebranding and
selling the products as their own. This practice is known as private
labeling.
WaterSense has established simple procedures for private labeling
products, which do not require product recertification or independent
listing with a licensed certifying body. Simply answer the series
of questions below, and remember that proper use of the label is
your responsibility!
- Are you a retail/distributor? If yes, have you signed an addendum
to your partnership agreement indicating that you will abide by
the WaterSense Label
Guidelines? If you are a manufacturer, then skip to Question
2.
- Is the original manufacturer of the product a WaterSense
partner?
- Has the product been certified by a licensed
certifying body to meet the WaterSense specification?
- Have you contacted the original manufacturer to have them add
you as an "additional company" on their product listing
with the licensed certifying body?
- Have you received the label from the original manufacturer or
the licensed certifying body?
- Have you sent in a new product
notification form to EPA?
