News Release [printer friendly page] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 14, 2005 DEA Welcomes Meth Legislation DEC 14--(WASHINGTON)-Drug Enforcement Administrator (DEA) Karen P. Tandy will be joining House Judiciary Chairman Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.), House Majority Whip Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), Congressman Mark Souder (R-Ind.), and members of the Methamphetamine Caucus to support legislation that will be used in fighting and winning the war on methamphetamines in our nation's communities. This legislation is included in the conference report of the Patriot Act, which is scheduled for a House vote on Wednesday, December 14, 2005. Based on legislation sponsored by Souder and Sensenbrenner in the House and Senators Talent and Feinstein in the Senate, the anti-meth language included in the USA PATRIOT Act conference report will regulate the sale of the legal ingredients of meth, strengthen criminal penalties, and enhance the regulation of meth by-products. The Administration urges both houses of Congress to act promptly to pass this critical piece of legislation.
