Testing Protocols

NEIC has used and developed unique protocols to address the following situations:
- Finding sodium azide in soil
- Quantifying perfluorinated octanoic acids
- Differentiating lead in soil originating in a battery plant from lead paint residues
- Analyzing soil for white phosphorous
- Characterizing " kish " from steel mills
These protocols often require the use of more than one analytical technique. For instance, the identification of sources of lead might require lead isotope ratio analysis, trace metal determinations (such as tin and arsenic), and determination of the physical morphology (the form and structure) of the pollution carrying particulates.
