Provenance

Félix Doistau, Paris, by 1907; (his sale, Galerie Georges Petit, Paris, 9-11 June 1909, 1st day, no. 37, as Portrait of an Unknown Man by Fragonard); Ducrey. Dr. Théodore Tuffier [1859-1929], Paris, by 1921 until at least 1945.[1] acquired 1951 by (Jacques Seligmann et Cie, Paris and New York); sold March 1952 to the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, New York;[2] gift 1961 to NGA.

[1] Exhibited at Galerie Charpentier in 1945. According to Seligmann, the painting was still in the Tuffier collection at that time.
