Region 7 Environmental Management System

ISO 14001

EPA Region 7 has a robust environmental policy that recognizes the absolute necessity of environmental protection, our expertise in environmental management, and our conviction to lead by example. We have implemented an environmental management system (EMS) at our Regional Office, Science & Technology Center, and other work locations as the mechanism for putting our policy into action.

In keeping with our commitment to consult with and inform the public of our environmental policy and performance, this Web site is intended to provide a broad range of information related to our EMS, including what we have determined to be our interactions with the environment; the impacts resulting from those interactions; our goals for minimizing the negative consequences of those interactions; and the policies, plans, and procedures we have developed to achieve them. Updates on our progress towards achieving those goals, known as environmental performance indicators, and general information on the structure and function of EMS can also be found here.  You can access detailed information about our EMS by selecting the Region 7 EMS Homepage link found on the left hand side of this page.

The Region's EMS is based on the International Organization of Standards (ISO) 14001 standard for environmental management systems and operates under its "Plan, Do, Check, Act" continual improvement cycle. If you are familiar with ISO 14001-based EMSs you can access detailed information about our EMS directly by selecting specific topics within the Plan, Do, Check, or Act sections in the boxes displayed on each page. If you are unfamiliar with EMSs, we recommend you review the document "What Is An EMS?" available to the left; you can return to this page at any time by selecting the "Region 7 EMS Homepage" link.

Finally, it is our desire to serve as an example to others and assist them in developing their own EMS by offering for their use any of the information on this Web site.* Additional information and links to various EMS sources is available from the EPA Headquarters EMS Web site. EMS implementation assistance for industry in Region 7 is available through the Performance Track Program.

If you have any questions or comments about the information on this site, or are a member of a governmental agency (federal, state, local, and tribal) and would like EMS implementation assistance, please contact the Region 7 Office of Public Affairs.

* Note: In accordance with the Region 7 procedure for document control and records management, all documents printed or downloaded from this Web site are considered to be unofficial working copies for personal use only.
