American Mosquito Control Association
(PESP Partner since May 1996)
Members of the American Mosquito Control Association are professionals involved in mosquito control or related research and development, typically working for mosquito control organizations; state, federal and local governments; universities; and companies that manufacture products used for mosquito control. Mosquitoes transmit various encephalitis viruses, dengue, yellow fever, four forms of malaria and filarial nematodes to humans and heartworm to domestic dogs. They are also a severe nuisance in many areas, making them practically unusable without mosquito control. The AMCA practices IPM through the extensive use of surveillance, mosquito fish, biological and reduced risk insecticides, and reduction in source areas where the larvae develop. AMCA's partnership in PESP has opened new channels of communication between this major group of public health insecticides users and the Agency to provide valuable information of assistance to the decision making process for the reregistration of public health insecticides under the Food Quality Protection Act.
