ENERGY STAR Labeled Building Profile

460 Wilmington VAMC

Wilmington, DE 19805

building

The Wilmington VA Medical & Regional Office Center, a member of Veterans Integrated Service Network 4, combines a 58-bed hospital and 60-bed NHCU with a VBA Regional Office and two Vet Centers (one on campus), offering veterans the unique opportunity to obtain health care, benefits services, and readjustment counseling at one location. The Wilmington Center provides a wide spectrum of primary and tertiary acute and extended care (both inpatient and outpatient) in an academic style setting. Serving veterans from Delaware, southern New Jersey, southeastern Pennsylvania, and Maryland's eastern shore, Wilmington also has a licensed child care center on site. Energy efficiency upgrades at the center have included the following: LEDs replaced inefficient exit sign lamps, electronic ballasts and more efficient lamps replaced older lighting, and variable frequency drives and high-efficiency motors were installed on HVAC equipment. The Wilmington facility also extended the central plant high-pressure steam loop and expanded the energy management system (EMS) to most of the campus outbuildings.

Communications:

We have a section in our monthly newsletter dedicated to the progress and updates on the facility projects and construction.

Testimonial:

The Wilmington Delaware VA is proud to be designated as a top energy performer among hospitals nationwide. Earning the ENERGY STAR for our facility means that our efforts to reduce energy use are helping conserve the nation's energy resources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. By implementing energy-saving practices and using energy-efficient equipment, we also save money-every month-on our utility bills.
