649 N. Arizona VA Health Care System - Prescott
500 Highway 89 North
Prescott, AZ 86314
The Northern Arizona VA Healthcare System (NAVAHCS) is an older campus-style medical center, comprising 56 buildings constructed between 1903 and 1998, that has undergone a number of upgrades over the last 9 years, many of which have resulted in energy conservation. Among the improvements implemented are energy-efficient lighting in remodeling and renovation projects, replacement of original windows dating to 1937 with energy-efficient windows, installation of VFDs, and replacement of steam coil tank water heaters with steam instantaneous water heaters. Inefficient, window-mounted air conditioners are being replaced by modern HVAC systems using a central chiller plant, and evaporative cooling is being utilized when practical. The Northern Arizona center is installing the beginning elements of a facility-wide energy management system (EMS) and tying new and replacement HVAC systems to this EMS. A new project to replace 10,000 fluorescent lights with new energy-efficient, electronic ballast lights is currently underway, as are projects to replace additional windows and several older chillers.
