National Crime Victims Rights' Week Each year, communities throughout the United States commemorate National Crime Victims' Rights Week (NCVRW) by implementing initiatives to help raise awareness of crime victims' rights and services. Since 2004, OVC has provided local communities with the opportunity to apply for NCVRW Community Awareness Project funding, which provides up to $5,000 reimbursement for costs associated with public awareness activities and events during NCVRW. OVC has already enhanced the ability of 131 communities to raise awareness of crime victims' rights and services through the NCVRW Community Awareness Project initiative. This year, OVC will support an additional 62 communities through the initiative. Billboards will feature the 2006 NCVRW theme, as well as the names and numbers of local crime victim service agencies. They also will use the billboard design to create small posters to advertise NCVRW activities at local agencies and businesses. (Montgomery, AL) Lighthouse Counseling Center, Inc.: This organization plans to collaborate with other local victim service organizations to organize a "Strength in Unity" rally during NCVRW on the steps of the State Capitol in Montgomery. The rally will include speakers on victims' rights and relevant legislation, as well as tables displaying information about local resources available to victims. They will use bulletin boards, press releases, public service announcements, television, radio, newspapers, churches, college campuses, and community organizations' fliers to advertise the event. ARIZONA (Goodyear, AZ) City of Goodyear: This organization plans to collaborate with local police departments to hold a "Strength in Unity Fair" after a 5K run/walk sponsored by another agency. They will hold the fair at a local community college during NCVRW, offering 12 workshops and information about victim-related issues. Press releases will be distributed to local media and television stations will be invited to attend the event. ARKANSAS (Little Rock, AR) Arkansas Court-Appointed Special Advocates Association: This organization plans to collaborate with other victim service providers to carry out an event entitled "Cruise to the Zoo" that will raise awareness of NCVRW and child abuse. It will take place at the local zoo and will involve banner displays and an information booth, which will contain materials on a variety of topics, such as how to access services for crime victims. They will use brochures, banners, and billboards to advertise the event and available services. (Bakersfield, CA) Kern County Hispanic Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services, Inc.: This organization plans to collaborate with local victim service organizations and other agencies to carry out a campaign promoting NCVRW, victims' rights, and available services. They will hold a "Crime Victims' Rights Fair," involving information booths, speakers, and artwork by victims. This joint campaign will also involve print advertisements, public service announcements in English and Spanish on local radio and television stations, and fliers in English and Spanish. They will distribute the fliers to area businesses and use them as newspaper inserts. (Concord, CA) STAND! Against Domestic Violence: This organization plans to collaborate with many local victim service providers and other organizations to carry out a public awareness campaign during NCVRW. A "Day of Healing" is planned, which will focus on the impact of trauma and include presentations. The event will be advertised through newsletters, their Web site, and posters. They also plan to purchase a newspaper advertisement that will list crime victims' rights and services, including faith-based services. (Modesto, CA) Modesto Police Department: This organization plans to collaborate with a local victim service agency and a foundation to carry out activities to promote NCVRW. The campaign will include creating and distributing posters, which will be displayed in the windows of area businesses, and yard signs printed in English and Spanish. They also plan to schedule television interviews with victims that will be in English and Spanish. Their planned events include a "Take Back the Night" and a "Victims' Rights: Strength in Unity" event, which will involve speakers and the presentation of awards to those who serve victims. Advertisement for NCVRW will be done through their local newspaper, radio, and television. (Napa, CA) Volunteer Center of Napa Valley: This organization plans to collaborate with local victim service organizations, the district attorney's office, local law enforcement, victims, and a local artist to carry out a "Linked Together in Unity Against Violence" campaign for NCVRW. The artist will design a logo, which will be displayed on T-shirts, advertisements, and fliers. The fliers will be printed in English and Spanish and displayed in local businesses. Also planned is a courthouse rally involving information tables and solution boards, as well as a "Linking Together" ceremony to create a giant paper chain symbolizing victims connected with services that work together. They will develop public service announcements in English and Spanish for local radio and television stations. (Nevada City, CA) Nevada County Victim/Witness Assistance Center: This organization plans to collaborate with local government and nonprofit agencies to carry out a variety of activities and events for NCVRW. The project will include a candlelight vigil, a victim awareness luncheon, a student poster contest, "Silent Witness" silhouettes, a display of T-shirts designed by sexual assault and child abuse survivors, and NCVRW proclamations. They will also develop posters, banners, public service announcements for local radio and television stations, newspaper advertisements, and an advertisement to be used on transit buses. (Sacramento, CA) My Sister's House: This organization plans to collaborate with local community organizations to advertise their services for domestic violence victims on grocery bags used in local Asian markets. They will translate the grocery bag advertisements into Chinese, Vietnamese, Hmong, and Tagalog (Filipino), and then distribute them to the markets for use during NCVRW. They will also hold a press conference and create posters to announce the awareness campaign. (Van Nuys, CA) University Corporation-Valley Trauma Center: This organization plans to collaborate with various California State University organizations, the local victims of crime office, and the Deputy District Attorney of Los Angeles County to hold a 2-day event during NCVRW. The event will educate the community on resources available to crime victims, relevant legal information, crime in their area, and the psychological effects of victimization. The event will also include an educational display and a performance of a play about sexual assault. The partners will use the radio, print, and television to advertise the event in English and Spanish. COLORADO (Denver, CO) Victim Assistance Unit-Denver Police Department: This organization plans to collaborate with local victim service providers and other organizations to hold an NCVRW workshop. The workshop will discuss the importance of collaboration, include presentations on services provided by local organizations, and distribute printed materials about local services. At the end of the workshop, participants will be invited to put together an action plan on how they can improve safety and services to victims. They will use fliers to advertise the event. CONNECTICUT (New London, CT) Women's Center of Southeastern Connecticut, Inc.: This organization plans to collaborate with a local police department to hold a 2-day community information fair during NCVRW. Several speakers will discuss victim issues and lead educational activities. The event will provide information on a variety of topics, such as local services for crime victims, the Crime Victims Compensation Fund, the criminal justice system, and safety for children and seniors. They will use the local media to advertise the event. (Gulf Breeze, FL) Northwest Florida Chapter, Trauma Intervention Program, Inc.: This organization plans to collaborate with victim service organizations, businesses, local law enforcement, and other organizations to hold an event during NCVRW entitled "Support for the Victims: Preventing the Second Injury." The event will educate participants on victims' crisis reactions, victims' rights, and available services. They will advertise the event through fliers, invitations, and public service announcements in English and Spanish. (Palatka, FL) Putnam County Sheriff's Office: This organization plans to collaborate with local law enforcement, businesses, and other organizations to hold three events during NCVRW. The "Strength in Unity Speak-Out" will be the kickoff event that will include information booths run by local agencies and an opportunity for victims to express themselves. Information distributed at the event will emphasize services for underserved victims, such as those who are Hispanic or elderly. The second event is a "Victims' Rights Observance," followed by a "Strength in Unity" march and candlelight vigil. The third event is a luncheon for senior citizens, which will provide information on crimes against the elderly and the services that are available for them. The events will be advertised through print and radio spots. (Punta Gorda, FL) The Center for Abuse and Rape Emergencies of Charlotte County, Inc. Victims Services Center: This organization plans to collaborate with the media and local organizations and businesses to hold a community event during NCVRW. The event will include exhibits with information about local victim services, speakers, victim speak-outs, and a memorial observance. They will also create a display honoring victims and hold art, essay, and poetry contests at local schools, with prizes provided by a local sheriff's office. A local newspaper will write a series of awareness articles and distribute a newsletter. (Blue Ridge, GA) North Georgia Mountain Crisis Network, Inc.: This organization plans to collaborate with other victim service organizations to hold a public forum during NCVRW. The forum will include information tables with materials printed in English and Spanish, a guest speaker, and panel of local providers who will speak about available services and the need for collaboration. They will also carry out a Clothesline project for domestic violence victims. The events and NCVRW will be advertised through fliers and public service announcements for radio and television. (Savannah, GA) Memorial Health University Medical Foundation, Inc.: This organization plans to collaborate with local community organizations and the City of Savannah to hold an informational fair at a local mall during NCVRW. They will distribute information about local resources for crime victims and hold a "Kid Track DNA Child Safety Program" at the fair. Brochures with a special focus on elder abuse will be distributed at the event and in Savannah 's water bills. The partners also plan to hold a news conference and contact the local television and radio stations to spread awareness of NCVRW activities and the services available to elderly victims. (Normal, IL) Regional Office of Education, District 17: This organization plans to collaborate with local child advocacy organizations and several other organizations to carry out a media campaign for NCVRW. This joint campaign will consist of advertising in five local newspapers during NCVRW and on two radio stations during the month of April. Advertisements will include information on victims' rights, resources, compensation, and NCVRW. They will also distribute grocery bag inserts in English and Spanish throughout the county. INDIANA (Elkhart, IN) Elkhart County Prosecutors Office: This organization plans to collaborate with local media and other organizations to carry out an awareness campaign for NCVRW. Advertisements will be developed in English and Spanish for local radio and television stations, including a Hispanic radio and television station. The advertisements will provide information on victims' rights and services. The partners will also create street banners and fliers to distribute to local organizations. IOWA (Ames, IA) ACCESS: This organization plans to collaborate with local college organizations and other local organizations to carry out a "Got Awareness?" campaign during NCVRW to raise awareness of crime victims' rights and services. Their campaign will consist of educational gatherings, radio and newspaper public service announcements, bus advertisements, posters, and displays about victim services and the impact of crime on the community. They will also distribute promotional items, such as buttons and magnets. (Lexington, KY) Nursing Home Ombudsman Agency: This organization plans to collaborate with two local coordinating councils on elder abuse and another organization to carry out an awareness campaign for NCVRW. The campaign will include designing and distributing bookmarks and magnets containing information about signs of abuse and the services that are available. They will also place information about abuse and available services in local water company bills. Promotion for the activity and NCVRW will be done through billboards, television show appearances, and advertisements in the local movie theater, newspapers, and radio. (Prestonburg, KY) Floyd County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office: This organization plans to collaborate with local law enforcement, a bank, and other local organizations in a rural community to carry out a countywide campaign entitled "The Right To Be Safe." The campaign will include a poster and essay contest for children in the fifth and sixth grades, as well as an educational day that will provide information about local victim services. There will be an awards ceremony for the contest winners and a "Victims' Rights/ Memorial Service" honoring all types of crime victims at a local college during NCVRW. The partners will also distribute promotional items, such as pencils and stickers, and use the media to advertise the events. (Amite, LA) TriParish Victims Assistance Program: This organization plans to collaborate with a local sheriff's office and victim service organizations to hold a "Victims' Rights Run/Walk" to kick off NCVRW, create a memorial wall for local homicide victims, and hold a memorial ceremony to honor and remember homicide victims. They will also create promotional items, such as buttons and T-shirts using the NCVRW logo. (Perry, ME) Pleasant Point Passamaquoddy Tribe: This organization plans to collaborate with local services through their Victims Advisory Board to hold a walk for NCVRW. They will distribute T-shirts and packets containing information on victims' rights and services at the event. The event will be advertised through fliers and notices. MARYLAND (Frederick, MD) Witness Justice: This organization plans to collaborate with a local volunteer organization to carry out an educational campaign entitled "These Are Your Rights" during NCVRW. Their campaign will consist of developing and distributing fliers and public service announcements on the radio and local cable station. The partnering agencies will also seek public speaking opportunities and reach out to local schools and organizations, such as an advocacy organization for the homeless. MASSACHUSETTS (Brockton, MA) Plymouth County District Attorney's Office: This organization plans to collaborate with other members of a countywide initiative, Violence-Free Education, Training and Outreach (VETO), to carry out a series of activities during NCVRW. They will hold a candlelight vigil and a "Living Memorial" tree planting service at a local park, which will also include the distribution of seed packets with NCVRW labels. A "Victim Rights' Awareness Fair" in local malls is also planned to provide the community with resources. Also planned is the distribution of bookmarks and palm cards to local stores. These items will contain resource numbers and safety information. They will advertise the events in English, Spanish, and Portuguese through local newspapers, television, and radio. (Cambridge, MA) Massachusetts Alliance of Portuguese Speakers: This organization plans to collaborate with local Brazilian, Portuguese, and Cape Verdean media to carry out a 1-week campaign during NCVRW focusing on domestic violence. Their campaign will target those three ethnic communities, so all information provided through the campaign will be in Brazilian Portuguese and the Cape Verdean-Creole language. They will hold a community awareness event that will include victim/survivor speakers and a facilitated discussion on domestic violence. Victims' rights and the services available to domestic violence victims will be promoted through posters, a press release, and an advertisement that will be placed in at least three weekly community newspapers. They will also develop a 30-second public service announcement to be used on cable television. MICHIGAN (Holland, MI) Center for Women in Transition: This organization plans to collaborate with a community alliance of prosecutors, probation officers, law enforcement, therapists, judges, educators, and other officials to carry out an awareness campaign during NCVRW that focuses on the rights of victims of violence. Their campaign will consist of 10 street banners in English and Spanish that will be placed within the city. The banners will state, "There is help for all crime victims. There's no place for violence in our community." One banner will include a crisis hotline phone number. They will promote victims' rights and the project in an article in the city's local newspaper and through public service announcements on local television and radio stations. (Paw Paw, MI) Van Buren County Prosecuting Attorney: This organization plans to collaborate with the county's Domestic Violence Coalition and the Victim Services Unit of the local sheriff's department to sponsor a local high school's opera that focuses on bullying. Before the event, a speaker will discuss victimization and victims' rights. They will also post two billboards on nearby interstates to promote NCVRW, hold an essay and art contest for local high school students, and develop awareness materials. Their joint campaign will also include a "Memory Wall" plaque with the names of victims in the county who have lost their lives to crime and public service announcements for local television stations, radio stations, and newspapers. MINNESOTA (Blainc, MN) Anoka County Victim/Witness: This organization plans to collaborate with public and nonprofit agencies in Anoka County to design bookmarks with information on victim services and statistics in English, Russian, and Spanish. They will distribute the bookmarks to local libraries and other places in the community, such as hospitals and restaurants, during NCVRW. A local student drama group will also develop a performance about victims' rights and resources that will be presented at local high schools. The performance will be advertised through radio and community newspapers. MISSISSIPPI (Hattiesburg, MS) Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Resources: This organization plans to collaborate with a local police department, district attorney's office, and victim service provider to carry out a multimedia public awareness campaign during NCVRW. The campaign will involve brochures, an advertisement in a local newspaper, and public service announcements on local television and radio stations. They will also hold a mayoral proclamation of NCVRW and an educational event consisting of workshops on victim-related issues. Also planned are presentations at local organizations and talk show appearances by victim service providers. MISSOURI (Bolivar, MO) Barceda Families: This organization plans to collaborate with various health departments and local outpatient therapy agencies to carry out a media campaign during NCVRW that focuses on victims of violent crime. The campaign will consist of billboards, pamphlets, brochures, fliers, and advertisements in local movie theaters and newspapers and on cable television and radio. The partners will also offer classes that focus on issues related to violent crime. (Springfield, MO) The Victim Center: This organization plans to collaborate with other victim service organizations to develop posters and tear-off sheets containing information about resources for crime victims. The partners will place the posters and tear-off sheets in bathroom stalls in local restaurants and bars during NCVRW and the rest of the year. They will promote NCVRW through press releases, radio announcements, and public access television. (Fremont, NE) Crisis Center for Domestic Abuse/Sexual Assault: This organization plans to collaborate with local businesses, restaurants, a local college, and a local victim assistance agency to carry out an awareness campaign for a five-county rural area during NCVRW. They will place billboards in each county that will include the NCVRW theme and distribute law enforcement victim packets containing information on victims' rights and services. The partners also plan to hold a "Take Back the Night" march at a local college that will include a display table with brochures. Also planned are posters, fliers, and grocery fliers printed in English and Spanish. NEVADA (Fallon, NV) Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe: This organization plans to collaborate with another Indian tribe in Nevada and victim service programs to carry out an NCVRW activity entitled "Tribes United in Victim Awareness." The two tribes will walk from their respective locations toward each other, meeting halfway, which will be approximately 20 miles for each tribe. When they meet, they will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for future collaboration in combating child abuse, domestic violence, and elder abuse. A celebration will follow the signing of the MOU and they will distribute some items, such as T-shirts, that promote awareness of crime victims' rights and services. NEW HAMPSHIRE (Laconia, NH) Belknap County Citizens Council on Children and Families: This organization plans to collaborate with law enforcement, victim service organizations, schools, and many other organizations to carry out a countywide community education campaign entitled "It's Personal! Strength in Unity for Victim Rights" during NCVRW. The campaign will consist of a "Silent Witnesses" display and the distribution of smaller versions of the "Silent Witnesses" display throughout the county. They will also distribute educational materials about victims' rights and develop a 6-minute DVD and video, which will contain interviews with victims and victim advocates. The project and NCVRW will be advertised through newspapers and radio. NEW JERSEY (Teaneck, NJ) Teaneck Police Department: This organization plans to collaborate with local businesses, a local high school, a Spanish television station, and other organizations to carry out an awareness campaign during NCVRW. The partners will bring in speakers to give lectures on a variety of crime-related topics throughout the week. They will also distribute laminated cards containing local emergency numbers and magnetic cards containing information about victims' rights in English and Spanish. NCVRW and their events will be promoted through a press release, newspaper articles, and a public service announcement on local television. NEW MEXICO (Las Cruces, NM) Third Judicial District Attorney's Office: This organization plans to collaborate with local law enforcement, businesses, victim services providers, and other organizations to carry out a series of events during NCVRW. The kickoff event will be a "Crime Victims' Rights Informational Fair" that will include the distribution of victims' rights information in English and Spanish. They will distribute "Know Your Rights" bags containing informational items at local elementary schools and buttons containing information about domestic and/or sexual violence throughout the community. They also plan to hold a cell phone drive, tree planting ceremony, and a "Senior Citizens and Victims' Rights Awareness Campaign" that will involve bilingual speakers and the distribution of literature. The week will conclude with members of the community wearing the color purple in honor of victims' rights. The campaign will be advertised through fliers in city utility bills, e-mail, radio stations, and newspapers. NEW YORK (Herkimer, NY) Herkimer County: This organization plans to collaborate with the county's child advocacy center to hold a series of events during NCVRW. They will hold a "Take Back the Night" rally and march, which will include informational tables, a victim speak-out, and a Clothesline project. The partners will also hold seminars open to the public that will address various victim-related topics and educational programs at area elementary and high schools. Events will be advertised through local television, radio, and newspapers. NORTH CAROLINA (Durham, NC) Durham Crisis Response Center: This organization plans to collaborate with local law enforcement, the district attorney's office, local universities and university organizations, and a local community-based Latino organization to educate the Latino community on statutory and date rape during NCVRW. They will develop posters containing information in English and Spanish about the risks of violence and local resources available to victims, and then distribute the posters to local businesses and agencies. Also planned is an awareness event, which will involve speakers and the distribution of a sheet containing information in English and Spanish on victims' rights and services, with an emphasis on sexual assault victims. NORTH DAKOTA (Fargo, ND) Rape and Abuse Crisis Center of Fargo-Moorhead: This organization plans to collaborate with local law enforcement and schools to host a "Kids Are Our Business Breakfast," and community event that will focus on child abuse. The partners will also give educational presentations throughout the month, advertise on television, and broadcast an antiviolence television spot focused on youth victims. They will develop and distribute promotional items that emphasize that victims should not be blamed and that contain information on available services. (Bowling Green, OH) Behavioral Connections: This organization plans to collaborate with victim service organizations to carry out a public awareness campaign during NCVRW that will focus on child crime victims. They will use local radio and newspapers to advertise NCVRW, the impact that crime has on children, and the services that are available for children and their families. (Kent, OH) Townhall II: This organization plans to collaborate with victim assistance programs and other organizations to carry out a public awareness campaign during NCVRW. The campaign will consist of a crime victims' memorial entitled "A Day in Our Shoes," a candlelight vigil, a luncheon, and community bulletin boards. They will also hold a rape prevention education program at Kent State University and a "Pinwheels Project" that will focus on child abuse. NCVRW will be promoted through posters, ribbons, movie theater advertisements, a radio public service announcement, and newspaper articles. (Toledo, OH) Advocates for Victims and Justice, Inc.: This organization plans to collaborate with local law enforcement, churches, victim advocate programs, and other organizations to carry out a public awareness campaign during NCVRW. The kickoff event will be a press conference with speakers, including the local prosecutor and victims. The partners will also hold a candlelight vigil, as well as develop and disseminate brochures containing information on victim services. They will also develop radio and television public service announcements. OKLAHOMA (Idabel, OK) Southeast Oklahoma Victims Advocacy Board: This organization plans to collaborate with local law enforcement, victim service providers, and various other organizations to promote awareness of resources available to victims, primarily child victims, and their families or caregivers. They will develop a resource/referral manual and a "Children Can't Protect Themselves" community guide containing information on abuse and neglect, legal issues, and resources. Both documents will be distributed at an informational event during NCVRW, as well as throughout the community by local schools, churches, and civic groups. NCVRW and the event will be promoted through press releases and advertisements on the radio and in the newspaper. OREGON (Oregon City, OR) Clackamas County District Attorney's Office: This organization plans to collaborate with local victim service organizations to develop a public service announcement to be used at two local movie theaters during NCVRW. The public service announcement will list information on local victim services in English and Spanish. (Portland, OR) Portland State University: This organization plans to collaborate with 10 centers in Oregon that provide services to people with disabilities to carry out a public awareness campaign during NCVRW. Various videos, guidebooks, posters, and other resources for victims, especially victims with disabilities, will be assembled to create "Crime Victims' Rights Toolkits." They will host forums that will address a variety of crime-related topics and distribute the educational materials from the toolkits. Local radio and cable access television stations will air public service announcements during NCVRW. (Harrisburg, PA) Victim/Witness Assistance Program: This organization plans to collaborate with local law enforcement, the district attorney's office, and community organizations to carry out a public awareness campaign during NCVRW. They will hold a vigil for crime victims, create a billboard honoring all victims, and develop public service announcements on domestic violence, child abuse, and gun violence. (Northumberland, PA) The Child Advocacy Center of Central Susquehanna Valley: This organization plans to collaborate with local victim witness coordinators and district attorneys in four counties to carry out a public awareness campaign during NCVRW. They will develop and distribute pamphlets containing information in English and Spanish on crime victims' rights and services. The partners will also hold "Crime Victim Awareness Tree Plantings" at each county's courthouse and advertise the events, crime victims' rights, and available services through local radio stations and newspapers. (Mobridge, SD) Bridges Against Domestic Violence: This organization plans to collaborate with local law enforcement, a Sioux tribe, and other victim service organizations to hold a 1-day event during NCVRW. Their event will involve speakers on various victim-related topics, such as jurisdictional issues and the dynamics of domestic violence, and a panel discussion. They will advertise in local newspapers and on radio stations. (Knoxville, TN) Community Coalition on Family Violence: This organization plans to collaborate with government agencies, community organizations, and a victims' rights task force to carry out a series of activities and events during NCVRW with the theme of "Strength in Unity: Reaching, Connecting, and Serving." Events will include a workshop, a public awareness luncheon, a candlelight ceremony, an "Empty Shoe" display, a Clothesline project, a blood drive that will benefit victims of crime, and a performance of a play focusing on teen dating violence. They will promote NCVRW and the events through the distribution of safety cards, key chains, and bookmarks; appearances by collaborating partners on local television and radio stations; public service announcements; a press release; fliers; and billboards. (Memphis, TN) City of Memphis: This organization plans to collaborate with a public service agency and other victim service organizations to host a candlelight vigil to honor victims of violence during NCVRW. The vigil will also serve as an educational event because they will distribute information about victims' rights and community resources in English and Spanish. They will advertise victim services through a local newspaper, as well as posters, pamphlets, and wallet cards printed in English and Spanish. (Oneida, TN) Children's Center of the Cumberlands: This organization plans to collaborate with the district attorney's office and other victim service organizations to host "A Day of Community Awareness for Crime Victims" during NCVRW. The event will raise awareness of crime victims' rights and services and will consist of a speaker, luncheon, and booths that will provide information about available services. They will promote victims' rights through ribbons, buttons, a radio station, two local television stations, and two newspapers. The campaign will address barriers that immigrant victims face and services that are available. They will hold workshops, develop an online directory containing information on resources, distribute informational material on victims' rights, and create a quilt in honor of crime victims. Available services will be advertised through immigrant community newspapers and radio. (Laredo, TX) Webb County Sheriff's Department: This organization plans to collaborate with the district attorney's office and victim service organizations to carry out an awareness campaign during NCVRW. Their campaign will include a proclamation at a local courthouse with speakers, a "Child Identification Day" involving information tables, presentations at senior centers, and an awards luncheon to recognize those who serve victims. The partners will also collect cell phones, clothing, diapers, and canned food to donate to agencies that serve victims. NCVRW, related events, and available services will be advertised through television and radio public service announcements, newspaper advertisements, press releases, and billboards on major roads. (Tyler, TX) East Texas Crisis Center, Inc.: This organization plans to collaborate with other victim service organizations to carry out a series of events during NCVRW. Events will include a proclamation from the mayor and a community walk. Also planned is a "People's Law Forum" to provide information to the general public on various legal topics, such as victim compensation and changes in legislation that affect victims. The partners will also publish a calendar of NCVRW events in local newspapers and record sound bites about victims' rights and services to be aired on local media stations. (Webster, TX) Bay Area Turning Point, Inc.: This organization plans to collaborate with law enforcement, a local university, and a university organization to hold a "Know Your Rights Information and Safety Fair" during NCVRW. The event will include speakers, a Clothesline project display, and information presented in English and Spanish. The partners will advertise NCVRW and related events through newspapers, radio, fliers, posters, and handouts. (Newport News, VA) Office of Human Affairs, Inc.: This organization plans to collaborate with victim service organizations to hold a series of events during NCVRW. They will hold a candlelight vigil, a teen victimization summit, and a crime victims' rights forum/reception. The events will be advertised through fliers, newspaper advertisements, and public service announcements on local radio and television stations. (Winchester, VA) Winchester Victim/Witness Assistance Program: This organization plans to collaborate with local community organizations to carry out a media campaign promoting NCVRW in English and Spanish. The campaign will include promotional items, posters, and banners that will be placed throughout the city. NCVRW and victims' rights will also be advertised through local radio stations, cable shows, and newspapers. (Mount Vernon, WA) Skagit County Department of Youth and Family Services: This organization plans to collaborate with local law enforcement, schools, community service providers, and other organizations to carry out an NCVRW campaign about the impact of crime, victims' rights, and available services. They will hold an NCVRW symposium that will focus on crime victims' rights. Promotion for their project and NCVRW will be in English and Spanish through newspaper articles, crime victim awareness posters, and public service announcements on local television and radio stations. WISCONSIN (Madison, WI) Wisconsin Department of Justice: This organization plans to collaborate with a local university, a crime victims' council, and a law enforcement organization to create artwork constructed from the metal of guns turned in by residents during a recent gun buy-back. The artwork, which will be symbolic of justice for crime victims, will be unveiled at a public ceremony during NCVRW. A reception will follow the ceremony and will provide an opportunity for attendees to sign up to "host" the artwork at their organization. The artwork will eventually be installed in the public lobby of the Wisconsin Department of Justice building. |
