Rhode Island was granted state program approval (SPA) in 1996. All six states in Region 1 have approved programs. Region 1 was the second Region to have all of its states achieve SPA

Number of confirmed releases	1,309 (national total: 474,127)
Number of cleanups completed	1,031 (national total: 365,361)
Number of cleanups in backlog to be completed	278 (national total: 108,766)

Percent of facilities in significant operational compliance with:

	Release prevention requirements	88%
	Release detection requirements	71%
	Both prevention and release detection requirements	68%
