The District of Columbia was granted state program approval (SPA) in 1997. All states in Region 3 have approved programs.

Number of cleanups completed	662 (national total: 377,019)
Number of cleanups in backlog to be completed	217 (national total: 102,798)

Percent of facilities in significant operational compliance with:

	Release prevention requirements	81%
	Release detection requirements	74%
	Both prevention and release detection requirements	62%
