- Water Quality Trading Toolkit for Permit Writers - “how-to” manual on designing and implementing water quality trading programs. The Toolkit helps National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permitting authorities incorporate trading provisions into permits. We are interested in public comment on the Toolkit. Comments received through the document's Web site will be considered for future updates. A limited number of hard copies are also available through the National Service Center for Environmental Publications
- Wastewater Operator Training Program - provides approximately one million dollars annually to improve compliance at small publicly-owned wastewater treatment plants with a discharge of less than five million gallons per day. Nationally, 46 States or training centers receive the funding and are able to assist, on average, about 700 facilities a year to either satisfy the NPDES compliance or improve performance. In the 2006 calendar year, the program assisted 659 small facilities and prevented 4.3 million pounds of pollutants from entering the surface water. About Us
The NPDES Permits Unit issues and modifies permits, regulates industrial and municipal discharges of pollutants to surface waters in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and works to ensure that our lakes, rivers, streams and coastal estuaries and seas are clean enough for children to swim in and healthy enough for fish and other aquatic life to thrive in.
The NPDES Compliance Unit is responsible for compliance with effective permits and enforcement of the Clean Water Act where no permit exists.
