Endangered Species Lists

Make an species list for a specific area within our jurisdiction.

Official Online Species Lists

If you need an official list for consultation, NEPA compliance or other purposes, you can make one online. These are official lists. And you can make an official letter to go with them.

Action Area

Begin by determining your Action area (PDF | RTF) This refers to the area that will be directly or indirectly affected by the project. This area will usually be larger than the project footprint. More info (PDF)

Make the List

Now you can make an official list. (You can also use these lists for unofficial purposes such as project scoping, media stories and school projects.)

Informational Lists

Make a quick list for one quad using our lookup page. For your convenience, the page will open in a new window.

You also can make the following informational lists online:

National and Worldwide Species

If you are looking for a list of all the threatened and endangered species in the United States or the world, visit our national web page.

Please Note

These are not occurrence lists

Our database was developed primarily to assist Federal agencies that are consulting with us.

Therefore, our lists include all of the sensitive species that have been found in a certain area and ones that may be affected by projects in the area.

In other words, we include all of the species we want people to consider when they do something that affects the environment. A list may include fishes hundreds of miles downstream from the project. See our Action area (PDF | RTF) page for more information.

If you want a list of species that have actually been observed in a specific area, contact the California Department of Fish & Game's Wildlife and Habitat Data Analysis Branch. For informal scoping, see their Quick Viewer.
