Denver Regional Workshops Offered

The Denver Regional Office offers workshops for training and assisting data users throughout the 10-state region. If you are interested in sponsoring such a program, there is no charge for our participation, however, a minimum of 15 attendees is required. Local expenses such as conference room, refreshments, promotion, etc., are the responsibility of the sponsor. If so, workshop sponsors usually charge a minimum registration fee to cover costs. List of Workshops
COMMUNITY/NEIGHBORHOOD ANALYSIS WORKSHOP
A half-day program aimed at those persons whose main interest is small or sub-city areas such as tracts, block groups, blocks, etc. It provides experience in analyzing census geography, locating data for small areas, and preparing small area population profiles.
USING CENSUS DATA FOR GRANT WRITING
This half-day workshop is designed to provide general information about the use of census data in federal fund distribution. Participants will be exposed to the importance of census data, the various databases and statistical measures used in federal funding, and census data content and its relationship to federal assistance programs.
CENSUS ON THE NET
This half-day workshop provides an in-depth look at the Census Bureau's web site, www.census.gov. It describes the kinds of census data available on the Internet and demonstrates how to access the information using interactive tools, including American FactFinder.
MAKING THE MOST OF AMERICAN FACTFINDER
This half-day workshop focuses on the American FactFinder (AFF). AFF is a dynamic resource on the Census Bureau's web site that will help you locate Census 2000 data quickly and easily. It is the primary tool for retrieving reports, creating tables, and generating thematic maps from Census 2000.
AMERICAN INDIAN STATISTICS WORKSHOP
This half-day workshop provides practical experience in using census maps and small area data in developing reservation and community profiles. It emphasizes census data products for American Indians.
HOW SMALL BUSINESS CAN PROFIT FROM INFORMATION
The power to use and analyze census data will be available to more small businesses than ever. Local data from the to U.S. Census Bureau provides information indispensable to the owner or manager of a small business. This half-day seminar will cover a variety of topics to help small businesses understand their customer, their competitor, and the changing marketplace.
AGING POPULATION WORKSHOP
This half-day workshop is for planners, analysts, administrators, and others who need data on the aging population and information on data items by specific age groups.
USING ECONOMIC STATISTICS WORKSHOP
This half-day workshop features up-to-date information from the Economic Censuses. Major topics include Census of Retail Trade, Service Industries, Manufacturing, and Minority-Owned Businesses. It will include the new North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) business and industry classification system.

AMERICAN COMMUNITY SURVEY WORKSHOP
Learn about the new American Community Survey and how to access and manipulate this data set.

 

CENSUS BUREAU SPEAKER SERVICE
In addition to these topical workshops, the Census Bureau offers speakers on a wide variety of topics. Various community organizations, professional chapters, statewide conferences and meetings, non-profit organizations and clubs, and trade and business associations can request a speaker. Some of the more interesting topics include:
