Modeling Subsurface Petroleum Hydrocarbon Transport

Bulk density, rb = total mass of a dry sample per unit volume
Concentration, C = mass of contaminant per unit volume  (or mass per unit mass)
Cw Water phase concentration  (mass of chemical per unit volume of water)
Co Oil or NAPL phase concentration (mass of chemical per unit volume of oil or NAPL)
Ca Air phase concentration (mass of chemical per unit volume of air)
Cs Solid phase concentration (mass of chemical per unit MASS of solid)

Porosity, n = void volume per unit total volume
Saturation, S = fraction of the pore space filled by a given fluid
Sw water saturation
So oil or NAPL saturation
Sa air saturation
