Mission & Purpose

Knoxville College is a private, church-related, four-year, coeducational, liberal arts institution. The College is open to students of diverse backgrounds and cultures who seek a quality liberal arts education. The College provides a challenging and stimulating educational experience for students of demonstrated academic ability and for students of potential who have been afforded little advantage within society. The College provides various public services for the improvement of the community and promotes concerned citizenship among its constituents.

Knoxville College provides its students, regardless of their backgrounds, a distinctive opportunity for educational achievement. The College maintains a program combining preparation for professional careers with a broad education in the arts and sciences.

Knoxville College strives to fulfill its mission through rigorous instruction and emphasis on:

DR. ROBERT H. HARVEY

Dr. Robert H. Harvey, a native of Sumrall , Mississippi , is serving as Interim President of Knoxville College (KC) for the fourth time, and has previously served in the following roles during a 37-year period: Department Head, Academic Dean, and Vice President. Dr. Harvey received his Bachelor's Degree from KC in 1946 and his Doctorate from Columbia University in 1956. Since his retirement in 1988, he has taught pre-calculus, calculus, and differential equations.

In addition to serving as a consultant for the U. S. Department of Education, Dr. Harvey also served as consultant for the Louisiana State Department of Education and the Texas Higher Education Commission. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Knoxville Symphony and the Joy of Music School. Dr. Harvey is a past Kiwanis Lieutenant Governor (KY-TN) and a Presbyterian Elder, and has served five years on the General Assembly Council of the Presbyterian Church, USA. He is also past moderator of the East Tennessee Presbytery.

Honors received include: Distinguished Service Awards from the City of Knoxville (1975) and Knoxville College (1976), the Meritorious Service Award (1979), and the Lifetime Achievement Award (1995) from the National Science Foundation. He is a Hixon Fellow (for community service) of Kiwanis International.

Dr. and Mrs. Harvey have a son, two daughters, two grandsons, and two great-granddaughters. Mrs. Harvey is also a Knoxville College graduate.
