Kempf the acting Assistant Commissioner for Acquisition Management. Mr. Kempf previously served within FAS as Deputy Assistant Commissioner for Integrated Technology Services (ITS), where he was responsible for GSA’s information technology schedules, Governmentwide Acquisition Contracts (GWAC) and Network Services Program. “FAS is fortunate to have dedicated leaders like Steve who help us provide best-value services, products and solutions for our customers,” said FAS Commissioner James A. Williams. “Steve’s outstanding leadership skills and knowledge will be key to increasing our customer support, ensuring that we have a great acquisition workforce, quality suppliers, and efficient and effective customer transactions.” Mr. Kempf replaces Michael S. Sade, who will become a senior advisor to John Johnson, FAS Assistant Commissioner for ITS. Mr. Sade will serve as a member of the ITS senior leadership team. With his in-depth acquisition knowledge and experience, he will help ensure that FAS integrated information technology and telecommunications offerings support customers’ missions. Mr. Kempf joined GSA in 1992, beginning as a marketing coordinator for the Office of Technology Assistance and the Center for Federal Systems Integration and Management (FEDSIM). He then joined GSA’s regional program in California, where he was the technical chairperson for GSA’s first GWAC. Mr. Kempf also managed projects for a variety of clients in the Monterey area. In January 2000, he returned to FEDSIM, where he served as a senior project manager, operations manager, and customer services director for DoD programs. Mr. Kempf was appointed Deputy Assistant Commissioner for ITS in 2007. #### Founded in 1949, GSA serves as a centralized procurement and property management agency for the federal government. GSA manages more than one-fourth of the government’s total procurement dollars and influences the management of $500 billion in federal assets, including 8,600 government-owned or leased buildings and 208,000 vehicles. GSA helps preserve our past and define our future, as a steward of more than 425 historic properties, and as manager of USA.gov, the official portal to federal government information and services. GSA’s mission to provide superior workplaces, expert technology solutions, acquisition services, purchasing and E-Gov travel solutions and management policies, at best value, allows federal agencies to focus on their core missions. Did You Know? FAS annual business volume of $46 billion accounts for more than one-seventh of the entire federal procurement budget. FAS manages acquisition programs that include information technology, telecommunications, furniture, tools, office products and supply items, and all travel, motor vehicle, and credit card services.
