Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose School District 877 is located about 40 miles west of Minnesota's Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area.  The district educates about 5,500 K-12 students and consists of nine school buildings in the cities of Buffalo, Hanover and Montrose.


Through its partnership with the Schools for Energy EfficiencyTM (SEE) program, Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose schools has saved more than $631,000 in energy costs since 2004. In 2006, Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose earned the ENERGY STAR Leader award for elevating its average energy rating across its portfolio by 10 percent. Four of the district's schools have earned the ENERGY STAR label.

 

In 2007, the district earned ENERGY STAR Leaders recognition again - this time as a Top Performer, which means that more than half of its buildings rated in the top 25 percent of energy efficiency nationwide in comparison to similar buildings.

 

The Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose school district has used a variety of techniques to keep schools operating as efficiently as possible without compromising the learning environment.  They include  operational and awareness campaigns and trainings for building operators. The district has also encouraged students and staff to become more aware of their energy use and provides guidance on changing energy behaviors.
