National Ice Core Laboratory - Science Management Office

The National Ice Core Laboratory-Science Management Office (NICL-SMO) is located at the Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans and Space, at the University of New Hampshire.

The NICL-SMO is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Office of Polar Programs and serves as the primary point of contact for scientists interested in access to ice cores. NICL-SMO's primary role is the facilitation of the Ice Core Working Group (ICWG). The ICWG consists of members selected from the scientific community and investigates issues pertaining to ice core science. Their primary role consists of guidance to NSF and USGS on topics related to sample access, distribution, inventory, policy issues, operation and maintenance of the National Ice Core Laboratory (NICL) and future directions for ice core research. NICL-SMO's goal is to assist scientists and the public with matters related to ice core science. Come explore the exciting world of ice cores!
