When you visit a CITGO, it’s like seeing a good neighbor. Today, CITGO is one of the top petroleum companies in the United States. The majority of their 14,000 gas station/convenience stores are individually owned and operated, which means the typical CITGO operation is a locally owned small business.

Chances are, there’s a CITGO in your neighborhood, and it’s become a convenient and friendly one-stop shopping outlet. It’s the place to fill-up with gas, grab a quick snack, a hot cup of coffee, pick up groceries, eat lunch, buy dinner, get your car washed and even have your oil changed.

And like most good neighbors, CITGO and it’s marketers are interested in doing their part to help the environment. For example, in New York, J. O. Cook, owner of 6 CITGO convenience stores, recently upgraded his facilities with new energy efficient lighting. Upgrading lighting saves energy, prevents pollution, improves the visual comfort and safety for customers, and improves the productivity of employees — all the while enhancing the store’s aesthetics and image. A comprehensive approach to lighting upgrades also creates opportunities to improve the efficiency of HVAC and refrigeration systems by reducing cooling loads in the store, allowing for an opportunity for CITGO to save even more energy down the road. What a good example for the millions of customers going in and out of the nation’s CITGO stores!

The energy efficiency lighting projects at J. O. Cook’s CITGOs were managed by Jim Borland’s U.S. Energy Capital Corporation,Exit ENERGY STAR a Rebuild America Business Partner and ENERGY STAR for small business participant provides innovative financing and management for energy efficiency upgrade projects all across the country. And the best part of the deal is that most financing packages can be structured to produce positive cash flow for the end user. U.S. Energy Capital contracted with Chevron Energy Solutions to perform the installation of the new lighting system at the CITGO stores.

Thanks to his recent partnership with U.S. Energy Capital, J. O. Cook’s CITGOs are now saving over $5,000 annually. And his efforts are also leading to energy savings of 60,000 kilo-watt-hours and the prevention of more than 100,000 pounds of CO2 (greenhouse gas) from entering the air we breath every year.

Now that’s convenience!
