Crustal Imaging and Characterization Team
Digital geophysical data is available mostly in ASCII form from a number of USGS websites. While individual surveys or state gridded compilations are accessible through these sites, there is not a centralized system that can retrieve these data, standardize the format necessary, and integrate these multiple datasets into a package useful for digital interpretation techniques.
The focus will be on implementing a web-based geospatial database within the framework of, and accessed through Mineral Resources Program Spatial Data Website and other web-based geospatial portals, which can retrieve multiple geophysical datasets and convert them into a format useful for integration and interpretation. The potential datasets include aeromagnetic, gravimetric, radiometric, and electromagnetic. The focus also includes the final archiving of historical geophysical surveys (mostly magnetics) into new and existing web-based publications for digital datasets, as well as, reformatting the National Uranium Resource Evaluation (NURE) magnetic and radiometric data quadrangles for web release.
The availability of digital geophysical datasets in both a centralized location and a consistent format, along with their relatively current status will allow the scientific community to have access to information at a minimal cost and in a timely manner. This will help expedite research and development of geophysical datasets and products.
