In Practice

1: Make Commitment

See this Guideline Step
Committing to continuously improving their energy performance has shown great paybacks for Estee Lauder, as energy costs are reduced by more than $1.3 million annually.

1.2: Establish an Energy Team

Full Circle Management

Estee Lauder's commitment to energy management extends from its manufacturing to retail divisions.  As a vertically integrated company, Estee Lauder relies on an energy team that involves Corporate Engineering, Facility Services, and Environmental Affairs to focus on energy improvements throughout its manufacturing facilities and retail stores.  This team is also responsible for passing on the message of energy efficiency to Estee Lauder's customers who visit the retail stores.  These across-the-board efforts saved the Estee Lauder Companies manufacturing operations $1.3 million in energy costs in 2004 alone.  In 2004 Estee Lauder's greenhouse gas emission reduction offset the emissions from the equivalent of 5,300 cars.
