Annual Right-of-Way Statistics

The Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act of 1970, as amended (the Uniform Act), establishes the rules, policies and procedures for acquiring real property and the relocation of individuals and businesses affected by Federal-aid projects. The Uniform Act also requires a report on the acquisition and relocation activities of the States.

The fifty states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia submit an annual report to the FHWA Division Offices. The report provides statistical information on acquisition and relocation activities in each State. States and Local Public Agencies (LPA's) provide information on both federal and non-federal projects. Statistical information was first collected in 1968 for the relocation program.

The annual statistics presented here are for information only. Some of the information requested is voluntary and not all states reply. For example, several states do not require LPA's to disclose amounts paid for acquisition purposes when local funds are used.
