Among the greatest challenges of taking on a project the size of the Lake Michigan Mass Balance, is coordinating the vast array of organizations and assembling the necessary expertise. The complexity of the program is reflected in the following list of tasks administered by the Technical Coordinating and Steering Committees: plan the project, locate the funding, design the sample collection, coordinate sample collection activities, locate qualified laboratories, coordinate analytical activities, assemble the data, assure the quality of the data, assemble skilled modelers, develop the models, communicate interim and final project results. Each of these individual tasks has challenged the people involved to think creatively and to act selflessly to ensure completion. The following agencies and organizations have all played major roles in assuring the success of this program on many levels. Without their willing and enthusiastic participation and focus on the success of the Lake Michigan Mass Balance, the project could never have succeeded.
