In view of FHWA's Vital Few Goal for Environmental Streamlining and the related objective of incorporating Context Sensitive Solutions (CSS) as the standard way of doing business, the Resource Center (RC) has begun an ambitious effort to educate and motivate our partners and customers to help them realize that goal.
Context Sensitive Solutions (CSS) - also known as Context Sensitive Design - is a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach to a transportation projects. CSS involves stakeholders in the development of a transportation facility that equally addresses safety, mobility, and the preservation of scenic, aesthetic, historic, and environmental resources and community values. Implementation of the CSS process will deliver benefits to an agency that include effective and timely decisions, gaining public trust and support, building positive relationships with resource agencies, delivering safe and financially feasible project solutions, and improving the overall project delivery process.
The CSS 4 CSS program is an outreach, education, and awareness initiative whose primary goal is to help transportation professionals and stakeholders achieve excellence by including the CSS approach from project planning through construction and beyond.
Every project and every customer is unique. The technical assistance and technology deployment solutions must recognize that uniqueness. The mission of the Safety and Design Technical Service Team (TST) is to develop custom solutions for our customers.

CSS 4 CSS: Context Sensitive Solutions for Context Sensitive Solutions
Briefing (Less than 2 hrs), Seminar (3 to 5 hrs), Workshop (6 to 8 hrs)
This course will provide participants with tools and techniques to effectively deliver timely and successful transportation projects. This course can be customized for specific audiences.
