Technical Worker at the Kansas City Plant

The GSA Heartland Region partnered with the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) in May 2006 to assist with the real estate needs associated with the transformation of the NNSA's Kansas City Plant.

Operated by Honeywell FM&T, the Kansas City Plant produces and assembles non-nuclear components for the nation's nuclear weapons. Transformation of the plant could save the government more than $100 million annually.

GSA is proceeding with plans to construct a new 1.4-million-square-foot industrial facility on the northwest corner of Missouri Highway 150 and Botts Road in Kansas City, Missouri. This new facility will be built following sustainable design principles and support up to 2,500 workers.

Environmental Assessment

In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, GSA has issued a "Finding of No Significant Impact" following an Environmental Assessment of a proposed new facility for the NNSA's Kansas City Plant. Copies of the Environmental Assessment, Finding of No Significant Impact, and Mitigation Action Plan are available in GSA's NEPA Library.

Subcontracting Opportunities

GSA has selected a shortlist of potential offerors to design and construct the new facility. Businesses wishing to contact potential developers can do so by sending an email to: NNSAbiz@gsa.gov

A lease contract is expected to be awarded in late January 2009. The selected developer will be announced publicly about two weeks following the award.
