DIRECTIONS TO THE LABORATORY
This duty station, co-housed with the Dixon Field Station of the BRD's
California Science Center, is located in the northern portion of the Sacramento/San
Joaquin Delta upstream from San Francisco Bay. This station was established
in the mid-1960s by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and has subsequently
been affiliated with several science centers since the merger of former
Fish and Wildlife Service biologists into USGS. Research by WFRC staff
has traditionally addressed the impacts of environmental contaminants,
water quality, or environmental degradation of environments affecting
Central Valley fishes. Additional studies have been conducted in the Salton
Sea, in coastal lagoons and estuaries, and the upper Klamath basin.
Assets of the Dixon Duty Station include close proximity to Central Valley
rivers and the San Francisco Bay/Delta, the local presence of several
universities with strong research or management programs in fisheries
and environmental toxicology, and an established working relationship
with scientists from various federal /state agencies. Currently, two WFRC
staff members are stationed at Dixon.
