Although the incidence of contingent work declined between 1995 and 1997, it continues to be more common among women, youth, students, part-time workers, and in the construction and services industries; still, contingent workers are found in both high- and low-skilled occupations. This article examines data on contingent work arrangements from the second special supplement to the Current Population Survey (CPS) on the topic, conducted in February 1997.
