Background
The Children’s Justice Act Partnerships for Indian Communities (CJA) program provides funding to help AI/AN communities to improve the investigation, prosecution, and case management of child sexual and physical abuse cases. Full Fact Sheet
Funding
Grants are made annually, and each requires an in-kind match to promote tribal investment in programs that can survive independently when funding is no longer available.
Eligibility
Federally recognized Indian tribes and nonprofit tribal organizations, as defined in the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act, Public Law 93-638, 25 U.S.C., § 450(b), may apply for CJA grants.
Training and Technical Assistance
CJA grantees are eligible for specialized training and technical assistance to help them implement and operate successful programs. The TTA provider conducts a needs assessment and provides indepth advice, training, and ongoing technical assistance to CJA grantees.
Activities Funded Through CJA
Funding projects range from multidisciplinary team training and development of protocols for investigating and prosecuting child sexual abuse cases to provision of child advocacy services and development of child-centered interview rooms.
