New State Eligibility Spreadsheets for Fiscal Year 2008/School Year 2008-2009

Who May Apply: (by category) State Education Agencies (SEAs)

Who May Apply: (specifically)

Funds are awarded to SEAs, which in turn make subgrants to local education agencies (LEAs).

An LEA is eligible to apply to its SEA for a subgrant if:

  1. The LEA is not eligible for a grant under the Small Rural School Achievement Program (# 84.358A);

  2. 20 percent or more of the children ages 5 through 17 years served by the LEA are from families with incomes below the poverty line; and

  3. All of the schools served by the LEA are designated with a school locale code of 6, 7, or 8.

To review the list of districts eligible for the Rural Low Income School Program, open the Excel file below for your state, find the tabs at the bottom of the workbook and select the tab labeled RLIS.

Note: These spreadsheets do not reflect any locale code test requested by States on behalf of districts.
