Landscape-scale issues, such as energy development, climate change, wildlife disease, and natural hazards (wildland fire, hurricanes, volcanoes, etc.) can have a significant impact on the social and economic systems and well being of entire regions. With population growth, global interconnectivity, and increases in ecotourism and outdoor recreation, humans find themselves sharing more space with the natural world. It is important to understand the socioeconomic considerations and societal implications of these landscape-level issues in order to help managers better understand how they can make beneficial contributions and communicate and collaborate effectively around these events. This task will investigate the socioeconomic impacts of landscape-scale changes, such as compiling a literature review on assessing the social and economic issues surrounding oil and gas development in Wyoming and other states, and investigating the human dimensions aspects of climate change and natural hazards, including wildlife disease.
