Michelin is dedicated to the improvement of sustainable mobility and manufactures top-quality tires for most every vehicle application. For commercial trucks, Michelin Durable Technologies has delivered a new generation of tires that improve tire efficiency and service life. These tires, such as the MICHELIN X One wide single tire, are making it possible to reduce the impact vehicles have on our environment. With more than 500,000 MICHELIN X One tires on the road in the United States, these tires have already saved more than 15 million gallons of fuel and reduced CO2 emissions by more than 165,000 tons.

Michelin actively encourages carriers to participate in the SmartWay Transport Partnership through its extensive network of field engineers and representatives throughout the United States. In addition to providing written materials that explain the benefits of participating in the SmartWay program, Michelin offers technical assistance in the areas of tire selection and maintenance to help carriers optimize their tire performance.

For each truck axle position, Michelin provides multiple tire options that meet or exceed the EPA’s equipment guidelines for low rolling resistance, which enables these tires to achieve the SmartWay designation. Michelin tires that meet the EPA low rolling resistance qualifications are the XZA3 and XZA2 tires for the steer position, the X One XDA, XDA Energy and XDA3 tires for drive axles, and the X One XTA, XTA Energy and XT-1 trailer tires.

Michelin received a SmartWay Excellence Award in 2007 for its efforts as a shipper of goods and materials, further demonstrating the company’s commitment to SmartWay and its core value of “Respect for the Environment.” As both a shipper of goods and a leader in tire technology that enables carriers to meet SmartWay standards, Michelin is uniquely poised to play a positive key role in the future of SmartWay.

"We see SmartWay as a win-win.  By utilizing technology that optimizes the efficiency of our commercial vehicles and hauling operations we not only help reduce the immediate impact that trucks have on our environment, but we can also help other commercial operators save money in the long run.  Michelin North America is proud to be part of the solution!"
