Con-way Truckload, founded in 1951, operates over 2,400 tractors and over 7,000 trailers and transports a variety of goods throughout the contiguous United States and Canada.  Con-way Truckload interlines with Mexican carriers at various border crossings to provide through-trailer service to Mexico.  In addition to its Joplin headquarters, Con-way Truckload operates four terminals and numerous drop lots along the border and throughout the United States.  Con-way Truckload and its subsidiaries, Con-way Truckload Mex, Con-way Truckload de Mexico, and Con-way Truckload Logística, have 37 sales offices throughout North America.  Con-way Truckload's drivers are both company employees and independent contractors.

Con-way Truckload intends to research and test viable systems that will reduce or eliminate unnecessary idling while allowing its drivers to obtain their required rest in a comfortable environment.  Today's drivers live in their trucks, and they will want to use technologies that will allow them to not only rest comfortably in the cab, but also reduce emissions.

Con-way Truckload 's goal is to find ways to reduce emissions, to reduce fuel consumption, and to operate more efficiently.

"Con-way Truckload became a SmartWay Transport Partner to become part of a long-term solution toward reducing emissions and fuel consumption. We believe this will be possible through the use of wide based tires, enhanced idling policies, exploration of idling solutions and a continual upgrade of Con-way Truckload ’s tractor fleet to the most recent available engines."

Bruce Stockton
Vice President of Maintenance, Con-way Truckload
